Great question! At Health Literacy Missouri, we oversee more than 30 demonstration projects that focus on improving health literacy on a community level. The Fluoride Action Network works towards broadening the public's awareness of fluoride. FAN enlightens people about the adverse health effects of fluoride that are ignored by the APHA. Even low levels of fluoride used for fluoridation can damage the thyroid, build up in bones to do damage, discolor children's teeth and be harmful to kidney patients whose kidneys don't excrete fluoride properly.
The APHA doesn't even distribute information to parents advising them to avoid fluoridated water when making infant formula although that's the advice given out by the Centers for Disease Control, the American Dental Association and several other government and dental organizations
